Rationed Madness

You are educated, even scientific to a fault and do not subscribe to most rituals unless they are explained. But have you ever looked for a sign? Let me explain.

You have an exam. You look out for the milk lady or the mail van on the way to school

You have an important date today- so you pick out that pink dress which always makes you happy. So what if you do not look your best in it.

You challenge God- God if we do not get out of this traffic jam before I count to 50 , you do not exist. Then you are at 49 and still no sign of the traffic easing out- so you say 49.1 , 49.2, 49.3 ....

You can laugh but I have done all the above. Honestly, haven't you? Is it possible to be so rational all the time?

Not at all! I don't thank anyone can be so naturally. Only if one tries really hard and restrains self, then only its possible..thats what I think.

LOL on the 49.1, 49.2 and 49.3 except that I always count 17.1 17.2 ... as my target is only upto 18 or sometimes think I didn't count properly and then start from 1 again if I am too despo :-)

I agree! I do both the first and second and I also do not subscibe to rituals unless I am convinced about them.

i am NEVER rational. I treat beliefs like love - it might deceive u once, but that is no reason to close ur heart to it for all time! :-) I am useless!

I also treat superstition and rituals as a sort of cancer that, if we let breed within us, will only make us more limp with each day.

Hypocrisy? Yes. But u see, the first is my own heart talking to me. The second is an unnecessary expenditure staring in the eye! ;-)

LOL very true. Am as normal, as rational, as superstitious as you

no I don't believe in signs. but like how-do-we-know said, some beliefs I embrace without question.
on challenging God, done that oh so many times. but I do give 'Him' till 50, no .1,.2 business, then conclude there is no God, be mad, but come right around the next day! I am hopeless, too!!

For all my exams I d try my best and wear the same salwar! :)

Exam Hall 49 is very very unlucky, 30 is bad too. Hall No 10 was the best! Lol...

one might say i will say this prayer before an exam and then i will surely do well. at which point does faith become pure irrationality?

namvor- That is when one becomes a fatalist?? or misses the boat

like how the sinking man refused help from 2 lifeboats waiting for God to show up...

That brought a smile to my face. I had some regular signs that I absolutely HAD to see (along the milk van lines) before an exam."Chaiyya, Chaiyya" was absolutely forbidden - my next test was doomed if I heard it the day before!

The physical make-up of a woman disallows rationality. Scientific rationality that is - rules made by men after all. :)

Well faith is something ingrained in us; we always look up for something when we despertely seek solutions, as children to parents, the parents to their parents and if its beyond human-control then ofcourse God, and its always known fact we perform best when we feel the best!!!
Being rational is fine; but so is being superstitious to a certain extent; after all the results count!?
Strange its the luck lady that the milk van was not there; but what if you still get everything fine!?
