Mami's day out

Went to the Accord Metropolitan for dinner- Maamis cooking festival. When I called for reservations , here is how the conversation went:

Me: Hi Could I have a table for 3 for tonight 7.30pm for Mami's samayal ?
Them: Yes madam. The festival focuses on pure Iyengar food. Pure vegetarian.
Me: How come the newspaper ad shows an Iyer maami?
Them: That is what madam, Iyer and Iyengar menu - I mean Brahmin Menu- pure vegetarian madam.
Me: That sounds good. Thank you then. ...

The food, infact the menu, was a let down- no keerai, no paruppu ususli, no akkarai vadisal. Bajjis & vadais were flat, veggies rather uncooked. To be fair , the desserts & the service were great though. And they gave us a takeway tamboolam of kai murukku- simply superb.

A keyboard performer in the lobby played" Mr Postman" on my request and Anush sat in rapt attention and did the thaalam ( karnatic style) to that song with her head bobbing like a Music Rasikaa at the November Fest. ( The Hindu's music festival- an eclectic mix of musicians)

Before I forget, we saw Parthipan and his daughter - Kirthana is it? My mom met him up at the buffet and appreciated his Azhagi. He seemed happy and responded chirpily. We got discussing whether "stars" feel good when recognized & spoken to in public or would they rather be left alone and go inconspicuous. What do you think?

btw why did they serve bajji for dinner? what about iyengar special puliodarai/pulianjatham ? no thayir saadham or aviyal?

Hello artnavy,
thanks for visiting my blog and leaving comment.Usually its easier to confront your fears than to live in its constant shadow.
And your post on friend transported me back to academic days. Is it true that most our friends remain from school/college days than at work place?

Yes, stars do feel happy when recognized. Where did the festival go?

i guess they feel a let down when no one recognizes or acts as if they hav not recognized???

i guess recognition is fine to an extent... i think it is like this - wannabe celebrities die for attention, celebrities are used to and sometimes irritated by attention, faded celebrities miss the attention :)

I guess if you dont bother the stars - they dont mind the recognition. I wonder how they'd feel if you plain unrecognised them. You think egos wud get hurt?

so centuries-old Srirangam cooking is now a hip 5 star thing?? interesting!

and what is Mr Postman - am kinda outdated on the music scene here..

abt the movie stars, maybe it depends on how high up the ladder they are...maybe a top gun might prefer their privacy during family outings.

Most of the celebs like to recognised but not disturbed :)

Celebs do love to be recognised... in case you do it subtly & not continuously question them.

@- Mr Postman is in fact a back of beyond song from the Carpenters

I sure want to keep see the comments coming in- maybe because I am not a star!

Mr Postman goes back even further than The Carpenters. The Beatles covered it previously. I think the Marvelettes were the first ones to record it in the very early 60's.

hi artnavy

though artists are happy to be recognised and appreciated i think the vanity and pomp wanes in time. yesterday was my friends b'day dinner at grt grand days, actor pasupathi is our friend and some guests wanted to take a snap with them; he preferred being with his fish fry than with some homosapiens.
