While we have always gone berserk over mangoes, Aditi follows suit.
My mom recently found these fruits in Jaynagar.
The light green ones taste like 'rose' water almost - panneer soda for those who are familiar- very polarising response- Navy loves them-they are also filled with nostalgia for him.
The middle pink ones are light green in Mumbai and are a watery fruit- I love it but no one else eats them at home.
The small green ones are hog plums(?) meant for pickles.

hog plums are called karunda in hindi and are used in hyd to make chutneys or as a souring agent for dals...the middle pink thing is a rose apple i think which i have eaten in bkk (large but tasteless) and calcutta (very flavourful)...sadly have never seen them in hyd, or maybe the season is too short
My mom had a Pannir Jamun tree in Mangalore...she used to get so many kilos and give to all people, and make sherbet too. Our neighbour had the pink jamun, the one with the rose flavour.
hey Art, what profession are you in and how on earth do you find to travel so much with such great enthusiasm. And how did u manage to get Anush do so much in her Summer vacations?
Interesting though am not a plum fan unless you give it to me in the form of plum cakes:)
:) Wow! never tried them... What fun.
I love the rose petal taste of the light green ones, which we get as a sweet, ripe yellow in Kolkata, and the rose apples we get are mostly white. I used to make a sweet and sour chutney with karonda, but they would be pink and white, not green. Maybe I'm talking of something else:)
Except for hog plums i have never seen the other ones :)
