Art on a Platter

Blogeswari was generous to get these plates done for my kitchen through Rashmi of Fluke Design.
And not just that, she got me an incredibly engaging wooden cat which works like a jigsaw and turns into a jewelery box. ( see in set in the above pic)
Anush assumed it was for her and I was surprised that she mastered dismantling and putting it together before her dad came back that night.
We attended a wedding at MRC hall, of a relative from my mother's side. This is the first time I visited that hall and it is splendid. There are ramps for the handicapped, clean spacious lifts, anti skid and dry loos, the ac works like a dream, the staff is courteous, the parking is ample and so on. . .
Ganesh - Kumaresh were the performers that night and that was simply beautiful. See Anush's severely engrossed expression as she observes them. But i do wonder how these artists are okay with all the noise around??!!
In terms of the return gift I was glad to see wooden parrot key chains instead of a steel/ plastic dabba.
Somehow food in marriages/ functions in Chennai is never made as brilliantly as at home/ restaurants or even to the level of B'lore or Mumbai. Even if the spread is lavish, the taste is never up to the mark. Or maybe just my luck, that in the last 10 years in Chennai, just 2 large functions where I thought the food was good.

I visited the MRC hall twice this year and enjoyed the ambience..i have never seen such a beautiful wedding hall..at one wedding reception, Kadiri Gopal was the artist and he was so good that the audience was spellbound..

I do agree with you about the food at Chennai functions..never found it as good as Hyderabadi khana!

chox-
considering the cost of the plates and that they may get scratched/ dented easily( they are aluminium) when i wash them... no they r not usable except as art!!

rashmi is the one who did the props for the mento fresh ad I think

sri-
i have not eaten wedding grub at Hbad ....:-)

i thought bangalore had the worst wedding food ever! i mean they serve freakin lauki even at the weddings!
i would have believed chennai weddings would have nicer food considering i like Tam food over south karnataka food anyday!

and Anush looks gorgeous!! and the plates are beautiful! :)

I agree with abha I thought the blore wedding food sucks... recently we went to wedding and none of us could eat anything and we went to a McD post that to grab burgers :D

and the plates are amazingly beautiful

my appetite goes south, once i see the HUGE tub of rice approaching.

buffets are a better bet at weddings. i think.

You missed my wedding - food was heavenly :D and a lot of ppl called back to take the caterer's no.
Agree with Mama-mia on Tam food scoring over B'lore food - I hated B'lore food while I was there.
Really pretty plates - how do you manage to get ppl to gift you such wonderful stuff!! *ENVY*

mamamia/ monika-
i too prefer tam food over kannada - but still out here it has never been good at functions

all marriages/ functions in blore have been of navy's family - so we have tam brahm caterers who have been brilliant- even at my own wedding in blore....

and mumbai has always been good whether traditional Tam brahm or gujju or the reception fare .....

uma-
send me the caterer's number and also that of the maami

i am indeed lucky to have found friends who give good gifts and know what i like...

as for the plates- blogeswari made it possible since she is kind and lives in mumbai- i paid for them and briefed Rashmi on my requirements...

mim-
it was a buffet, very neat and clean, a wonderful menu- north, south, continental, chinese and chaat, fruits, ice creams, mithais, starters etc....yet it was not up to the mark taste or temperature wise

madmomma-
