Playing favourites with the Gods

Glass painting gifted by Usha

As many of you know, Navy and I collect Ganeshas , though no longer with as much gusto or indiscriminately.

Krishna is the new favourite in the house with Anushka. She plays with the clay baby Krishna with his pot of butter and the tall Sandalwood one.

She watches animated Krishna on TV, loves the Krishna Sudama story and the DVD.

When I was little, my favourite God was Shiva. He seemed cool, enjoyed dance and was not too goody goody..... What about you?

KT's favorite is Ganesha :)
I think Krishna comes a close second since we have visited ISKCON temple.

Hm nice post. My favourite is Ayyappa. Poppin let's see - it used to be Ganesha then Krishna, I think those two are huge favorites with kids. Right now she's liking the Ramayana story.

I used to be a major fan of Siva for al the same reasons- a very human God. Faithful to his only consort, and so on..
But actually now have no favourites, its an even praying ground.Anybody's welcome to help me out.. :-)

My fav is Shiva....the God who shares half his body with his wife..and who dons the role of a woman to help his bhakt/follower during labour.
LB-i think its too early to figure that out..
Was surprised reading poppins answer..somehow i did not expect her to come up with Ayyapan. What a narrow mind i have!

Lav: Why? I am miffed now. I happen to think Ayyappa is so unique because he's the baby of Shiva and Vishnu. Plus he is the family God and having attended multiple Shasthapreethis as a young girl in Palakkad has made me his Bhakth for life ! :)

IBH: Same pinch and I am not surprised!

this is turning out to be an interesting chain of comments. . .

it is strange that we ( navy and I ) do not really believe in idol worship but still indulge in a ganesha collection

Poppy:Before you could get miffed, i admitted my narrow mind na?? I have seen so many people banish Lord Ayyappa for no fault that i assumed that he is not a popular god! Just came back visiting our family ayyappa temple. When the priest was doing "nei abhishekam", i could not stop my tears!! Though i pray hard to ayyappa, Lord Shiva still holds a special place in my heart.
