Why me??

Have you seen dustbins in animal shapes in public places?

A rabbit or a chimp usually and sometimes a penguin. . .

I can at least understand if they use a kangaroo but why these?

Possibly because children will notice them and use them?

Also, maybe, to lend some beauty to the surroundings which the regular trashcans will definitely take away from? It seems that the beautiful shapes are used to mask their purpose and not have them stand out as sore thumbs.

Nope, I dont think we know each other :) I did grow up in Mumbai (so we do have something in common?) and my il's are from Chennai.
