Ganapathi, Vinayaka, Vigneshwara, Ganesha, Moriya, Gajanana.... so many names
Among the most versatile of Gods in terms of depiction as well- some bordering on the gaudy, others innovative and cute.
A few years ago, I had featured in a newspaper for my Ganesha collection. Now I will also be on air on radio.
Hope Anush grows as fond of Ganesha as her parents. . .and hope He is fond of her and keeps trouble at bay.
Wishing all of you a happy Ganesh Chaturthi!
Here is a nice explanation albeit a little overdone from paavani's blog.

I wonder why only they make different models of ganesha alone? why not shiva or Vishnu??? My hubby's elder cousin has 200 idols. He bought the 200th one in pondy when we had been there.
swati- on Saturday I was ona ir on Radio one at around 12.30 !!
lavs- we have about 100 at last count-would love to see your cousin's collection- he is in chennai?
A friend of mine had a Ganesh idol resting with his hand supporting his head. It was such a sweet idol. I agree, Ganesh probably is the only god who finds ways into various depiction be it one stroke with a pen or clay moulds.
Wow!love the collection.
Sorry Artnavy. My hubby's cousin stays in Nerul, mumbai. Will try to get a snap of the collection the next time i am there(god knows when that one will be).
