Potters Road

On the Chennai- Bangalore road at Palamner, you will be greeted by a multitude of terracota potters.

They line the road on either side and you cannot but feel tempted.

To suit every budget and taste, there are miniatures to mammoth pots , chimes, animals and urns.

Be it functional or decorative , you will find what you want at half the price as in the city.

I love terracotta and the variety I see every time I visit. It's too bad can't get them out here - the choices I mean. :(

We have one store in the area that has a multitude of pots sitting outside. We finally stopped once and checked them out. Was quite a rather pricey place, and didn't find much that interested us.

rads- my SIL would agree with you- she is in Boston

hi hgmom- u know a lot of pottery is done in the South- pondicherry and andhra are pretty good at it- now a days they expreiment with gold/ brass/ black/ silver/ bronze paints- which is not as good as the originalbrick mud colour

hey Alan- u back from the UK trip?
we even store drinking water in terracota pots....it lends a distinct flavour and a cool feel as well

Even the city hi tech shop prices for terracota stuff in India is pretty low

I first thought that you had taken this photo in Chennai. There is this place near “Valluvar kottam” where such terracotta pieces are on display.

Hi,

Looks like they've got a variety.

There's a similar place on the Bangalore-Tirupati road too, past Kolar- we bought two knee high horses from there for- yes, less than half the price they quote in B'lore. and they packed it beautifully in straw too.
