Vande Mataram

To live up to my name, I will dodge the subject of whether enforced singing of Vande Mataram, is necessary or not. Or that it may have reliogiously offensive content.

Suffice to say that I enjoy the song in all its versions from the one on DD to the Shubha Mudgal and A R Rehman ones.

Here is my favourite version. The Anand Math one. The music is by Hemant Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar sings it. While the recording of yesteryears lackes the finesse of today, it surely does not lack in spirit.

Note that it has an extra stanza than the usual rendition. Thanks to Wikepedia I found the lyrics I had forgotten. Here they are.

Truly living up to your name eh? ;-)
I agree that songs can be interpreted in so many ways and vis different kinds of music.
I don't believe singing of a song should be enforced though. Love of country just manifests itself in differentways and it's about freedom no? The freedom of not wanting to sing a song?

its totally stupid that we are tied up to imaginary boundaries that make up countries. appreciate music for what it is.. ofcourse i like vande mataram as a poem and also as a.r's musical but i cant stand it being projected in a patriotic fashion. i think we all need to grow up.

Well...all I can say is that I like the Vande Mataram in "Lage Raho Munnabhai" and "K3G"(while showing scenes in London).
Can you recollect that??

It's a beautiful song and is very inspirational.Esp the Anand mat version is hair raising,it was truly sung in true spirit of freedom.I also like the AR rehman version.Another song which moves me is that "Aye mere vatan ke logon" by Lata Mangeshkar. It always left me misty eyed.
