Cheat Err

I let Anushka believe that I had put my fingers into the water and let the fish lick them. Anush followed suit ( or so she thought) and also enjoyed feeding the fish!

I tell her to eat papaya and brinjal -stuff I would never eat even if I was starving
I tell her to go easy on sweets though I have no control
I goad Aditi to have plain milk though I never did or do unless it has some coffee in it

Do you cheat/ have double standards as a parent ? Once in a while? Have the kids caught you in the act?

I tell them
One work at a time and don't move to the next until you finish what ever you are doing currently. Something I can NEVER master.

Also I preach Chula abt not dilly-dallying, when I am the one who passed it to her genetically.

They haven't put me on spot light and if so, I can asnwer what HOW DO WE KNOW said, 'I don't want you girls to repeat my mistakes. Learn from my experience. Blah, blah, blah.'

I think double standards(between kids and parents) and parenting go hand in hand :)

I have Na clean up immediately after playing with her toys, though I never used to do it. I have eat all her veggies, though I have my preferences and secretly not eat(yay! on the papaya and brinjal bit)!!!

I think these things are harmless because hopefully we are raising them to be unbiased individuals. They are definitely going to form their own opinions in a couple of years and maybe can form better ones since they have more choices!

I choose to hide behind that cover :)

"Why don't you patiently answer ?" I ask my girl ... and I am famous for my yellings :)

You should always wear shoes while going out I preach ...while I am never seen in shoes. I have trekked in my heels :)

Sure. Why have her repeat the mistakes I have made? Let her benefit from my pitfalls. If she has to make mistakes in her life, let her make her own. A bit like vaccination, I guess.
In the meantime, I am a sloppy person who doesn't know where I have kept something, but I expect her to put away her things after she has used them. :)

yes yes- we all want our kids to be better than us...

in some instances kids help us become better people, dont they?

"Don't use that tone of voice with me , young man" , I say to D very often, using the very same tone I want him to avoid. Of course, my words come bite me in the butt squarely when he says " Don't use that tome of voice with me, you silly girl" all with finger wagging .

Plus the no biscuit/chocolate close to meal times rule which I happily break myself.

My kids are forever challenging me on this. "But you do it" or "But you don't do it" are flung around freely at me!

My best faux pas are with me wagging a finger at Dhruv scolding "Don't you dare to raise your finger at me" and with Divya "Stop complaining about the cream in your milk" when the same thing makes me gag!

Found you via Patty's blog...you have a lovely home!!!

And regarding this post...OMG, yes! all the time...no control over sweets, but I'm trying to instill good eating habits in my 5 y/o. Ran around and played all day, but I try to get him to practice his numbers/letters every day.. :)

I think I'm trying to ensure he doesn't make the same mistakes I did... ? let's see...
