Dog's Tale

Anush was all excited to visit the " Happy to you Bday" of Ojas Tejas and I had told her about Duggy as well, last night, as we set out from home.

But when she got there she would not pet or play with Duggy- one of the most adorable little pups I have seen, with a very sweet disposition to match. She was in fact afraid of him.

I was a little diappointed but I am not surprised. I guess it is in her genes. Neither Navy nor I are fond of dogs.

As a child, I never raised a pet largely because we were always in flats and both my parenst were working and we had no full time help or space to take care of the pet while we were away. I recollect I wanted to keep a cat at one stage but never got around to it.

I love animals in the wilderness, on TV and in other's homes.

But if I were to be honest, I cannot see myself having one at home. Even if we had large house. Maybe if we had a lawn....I see them as a HUGE responsibility. Petty as it may sound, dog hair and the typical dog smell bothers me.

I do hope Anush is more welcoming of puppies and cats than her parents. If not she may feel left out when she hears all those who expound on the joys of having a pet.

When it comes to apartments, it is pretty tough to have a pet.

agree about the responsibility of the pet..
its not enuf to feed him and let him out sometimes. u need to play with him, give him time, allow him to exercise etc.. not possible when both of us r wroking and kids are too small

I am total pet person and I grew up in a household full of them. I am yet to get one though when we take an independent home ,I agree it's tough having one when you are in a flat or condo. They are definitly a lot of responsibility but a lot of fun too.
I think Anush will get over her fear in time. Little kids usually do!

I am not a pet person either...but to fill the void in Li'l A's life we make sure we get ourselves invited over to friends with pets pretty often.. clever ?? :)

I would love to have a dog, but B is not so into them, which is such a big disappointment. If I had had the chance, I would have insisted that the man I wed should be a dog lover and have one at home..alas, that didn't happen (read my new post..u'll know).

i agree - animals are a huge responsibility and it's tough to have on in apartments...it's simply not fair to the animal to be cooped up indoors all the time. strange that you shud mention the dislike being genetic - bonbon doesn't seem to like animals either...she starts screaming when she sees dogs and cats (she's ok with cows though!!). i'm not a pet person so she probably gets it from me..i ws hoping she's take after her father who loves animals.

YOu're absolutely right on the responsibility bit.
I looooovvvvve dogs, but since we don't have anyone to look after him/her while both of us are away on work, have postponed getting a dog to the time Sonny boy is able to pitch in and help. Which I'm sure he will, since my dog loving genes have been trasmitted to him :-D
