The shortfalls of being tall

I love being tall- always have. But sometimes it is too much of a good thing.

Way back:
Queues in school were always height order wise- do tall people feel less hungry? Any less urgency to visit the loo?
Always assigned the boy's role in all skits in an all girls school
Never got to wear the Bata "Ballerina" school shoes post Class VIII because toes would not fit- managed with the ugly flat front
Not allowed on some rides in amusement parks because I looked tall for their cut off age ( Appu Ghar- I still hate you)
Invariably needed to prove my age on the train

Today:
I dream of finding a pair of shoes that fit me fine- a strappy smart one that does not have 4 inch heels! Actually even a pair of beautiful "ladies" sneakers will do.
I feel clumsy to have to add on at least 2-3 inches length/ height to every ready-made salwar and sometimes even saris
I fear getting bumped on my head without fail, when the door is rather low
I sink into the movie seat because the dude behind can barely see the screen through my head
Sometimes have shorter perverted men look inadvertently "you know where"

And yes, then and now, THE most boring of all, is to be asked " How is the weather up there"

agree with apu on the short pervert..
totally identify with the 3-4 inch heeled shoes- annoying isn't it, last in the bench/ queue else suffer the nudges of people asking u to bend. always hav the shortie friends/ cousins sitting on ur lap in crowded autos / car./ rickshaw!!

I always thought tall girls were really cute and beautiful. Me not too short and definitely not a pervert, OK!

o well, I have always dreamed of being taller....not having to be the first in the line. And now that I am in the US - having to look for the "petite" label on clothes. maybe we should switch sizes.....there are tons of clothes and shoes for you here.....and for shortie me - there. what say?

To all the cute things in small packages- you will always look younger than your age and if in Mumbai you will always be called " baby" by the vendors!! So REJOICE.

To the one man who wrote in- Thank God for men like you (and Navy ) who like tall women

I've always been "the shortest" anywhere uptill now, but I've never felt about it or even thought about it. I did enjoy certain perks being short-
- being treated like a kid (if you enjoy being treated like a kid)
- being the favourite among teachers
- age doesn't show - (considered a good 10 years younger than I really am)
-getting more credit than is due to you.

But, I like to hang out with taller people (of course this wasn't an option, so it'd be more correct to say I like to hangout with people - lol)

The negatives -
-you get lost in a crowd
-cant take a rebound in basketball
-someone always has their hand draped over your shoulder (if you like that someone, then its a perk)

Just like the visitor said, I am short too but I never felt or even think about it maybe I don't look short. I guess its all how you carry your height just like fat(weight);-)Hubby is 5'10 and Im 5'1" still we look the same height;-)) seriously.. But I wish to have added another 3-4 inches added if there was a store selling height:-)Still never regret being short anytime:-)

i thought i was slightly above average at 5'10'' (1.80m) but comparing to this year's crop of 18 year olds I'm fairly short... even the girls seem my height or taller. Do they get growth hormone in their food or something?
